Kari Tapio 80 vuotta - Olen suomalainen

In November, 80 years had passed since the birth of Kari Tapio. The anniversary tour organized in honor of the jubilee year has been so popular that it will continue in April–May around Finland. The “Kari Tapio 80 Years – I Am Finnish” celebratory concert tour resumes on April 8 in Kokkola and will travel to more than ten localities.

On the tour, audiences will hear Kari Tapio’s legendary blue-and-white songs, as well as stories about his life and career, woven together by his artist and musician friends.

At Kulttuuritalo Korundi, the performers will be Marita Taavitsainen, Teemu Roivainen, Kari Vepsä, Eikka Eronen, Juse Venäläinen, and Joona Jalkanen. The artists will be accompanied by His Celebration Orchestra conducted by Jani Jalkanen.

“It’s wonderful to be able to return to Kari Tapio’s songs and in this way honor my father’s life’s work and career as a singer,” says Joona Jalkanen, Kari Tapio’s son and the person responsible for arranging the concert. “An unforgettable evening of great music is ahead.”

Kari Tapio, whose real name was Kari Jalkanen (22 Nov 1945, Suonenjoki – 7 Dec 2010, Espoo), received a total of 21 gold records, 8 platinum records, and one double-platinum during his career. He was awarded Iskelmä-Finlandia in 2003 and received five Emma Awards, including Best Male Artist in 1999 and 2005.
