The musical tells the story of the early careers of Katri Helena and Tapani Kansa, and their rise to become great popular favorites. The performance also tells how the stories of these two stars became intertwined in the Finnish schlager sky. Both were rising artists under Danny’s D Productions. They also performed in the Operetta Theatre led by Hilkka Kinnunen. Hilkka Kinnunen cast Katri Helena and Tapani Kansa as the stars of My Fair Lady. Inspired by the musical, the record company decided to organize a joint tour for Katri and Tapani in 1971. Their Love Story tour was surrounded by speculations of a romance.

The musical is a colorful and eventful story about the lives of these artists in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The show features the glamour, mishaps, fun, and harsh reality of life on tour. It tells how Katri Helena, Tapani Kansa, Danny, and other top artists made their way to the brightest stars of the Finnish popular music scene.

The musical features magnificent hits such as Katson sineen taivaan, R-A-K-A-S, Syysunelmaa, Tuuliviiri, Katson autiota hiekkarantaa, Paista päivä, Seitsemän kertaa seitsemän, Lintu ja lapsi, Anna mulle tähtitaivas, and many, many more.

Katri Helena is one of Finland’s most successful singers. Over 1.5 million of her recordings have been sold. Puhelinlangat laulaa (“The Telephone Wires Are Singing”) was her breakthrough hit in the early 1960s. She is especially beloved by the public, and part of her popularity is based on her strong Finnish identity — she is often called the blue-and-white voice.

Tapani Kansa was a versatile singer whose repertoire included schlager, rock and roll, more artistic songs, and operetta. He was a talented, distinctive, and ambitious artist who received great critical acclaim. His breakthrough hit was Delilah, which he performed with great intensity.

Ilkka Lipsanen, known as Danny, is a singer, entrepreneur, and music counselor. His most famous recordings include Kesäkatu, Tuuliviiri, and Kuusamo. Since 1966, Danny has managed his own entertainment agency called D Productions. He is also known for his show tours, which he has organized since the 1960s. He introduced a new kind of show culture in Finland, where in addition to the artist and band, audiences were treated to spectacular costumes, dancers, and impressive light shows.

Hilkka Kinnunen is an actress, soprano singer, and theater counselor. She founded the Operetta Theatre in 1959. The Operetta Theatre operated at Helsinki’s Rowing Stadium and toured various regions of Finland. The theatre also visited Sweden and the United States.
