Solo viola
We announce a vacancy for solo viola. We seek an excellent violist with experience of chamber music and orchestral work, including readiness to perform also soloist material. Good co-operation and communication skills are required. The job includes travelling and varying work schedules.
We offer an outstanding work environment and colleagues, own rehearsal room, and a versatile repertoire from chamber music to the grand pieces of orchestral literature. Our venues range from Lapland to other places in Finland and abroad.

The audition is held at 12 on Saturday 9th May 2026 at Lapland Music Institute hall, add. Jorma Eton tie 8, Rovaniemi.
Post commencing on 10.8.2026 or based on an agreement. There is a trial period of six months for the post. The chosen candidate must present a medical certificate.

The Lapland Chamber Orchestra – Rovaniemi City Orchestra is the northernmost professional chamber orchestra in Finland and indeed in the entire EU. The orchestra has 19 full-time members and its Artistic Director is conductor John Storgårds. The orchestra’s Principal Guest Artist is Marzi Nyman.
Based at Korundi House of Culture in Rovaniemi, the orchestra is a regional orchestra that regularly tours the Province of Lapland, but also performs elsewhere in Finland and along the Cap of the North. The work and recordings of the Lapland Chamber Orchestra have gained recognition. For example, the orchestra’s recording of the Chamber Symphonies of Vagn Holmboe received rave reviews and was a nominee for the 2013 Gramophone Award. The recording of Kalevi Aho’s concertos for theremin and horn, in turn, received the distinguished German ECHO Klassik award in 2015. The release of Hans Abrahamsen's Schnee was nomineed for the 2022 Gramophone Award finalist and ICMA 2022 Award and is nomineed for Finnish Emma 2023 Award. The latest album with composer Sebastian Fagerlund has been highly acclaimed in reviews both nationally and internationally and is nominated for both ICMA and Emma Awards.
